What is Myrrh?

Myrrh is an oil and in Christ’s time it was used as an anointing oil and was one of the most desired and most expensive items in the known world at that time.

Myrrh is extracted from the sap or resins of the plants of the Burseracea trees, found in Yemen, Somalia, and Socotra Island.

In Greek mythology, the goddess Myrrha was turned into a Myrrh tree and the trees sap is said to be her tears.

Myrrh was historically used as a cure for cancer, leprosy and as an embalming agent; which may be a symbolism that the three wise man gave as a sign of his eventual crucifixion, death and resurrection.

How will you give your gift of Myrrh?
